Ode To The Week ~ In which I prove that Agoraphobics can be just as busy as everyone else !!!

Welcome to Freya's Day me Loverlies and we have made it through to another week YAY!!!!

I have been busier this week than I used to be when I was working full time 2 jobs and with my own catering company and bistro with 2 young kids and foster kids to boot!!!

Don't let anyone tell you because you are agoraphobic you can't get anything done, and certainly don't tell yourself that either. For myself I run a costuming business, a t-shirt design business and now am starting event organising as well, not to mention that I still find time to make our own cleaning products, bread and soy milk and everything else as well.

A normal day for me starts when the alarm goes off at about 7am, this doesn't mean I get up it means that I check all my emails etc and skype with my son, get all the paperwork done and then maybe get up at about 9am and start making bread and yummies for the day at the same time getting brekky ready!!! from there we either get things done in town IF I can make it, if not I get to designing and making calls for the things that need to be done. Orders to complete and events to organise and once lunchtime pops round the bread is ready and warm and yummy!!! The afternoon normally consists of meetings and sewing. Not only filling orders but making stock for when I can get to festivals outside of the events I organise myself.

Thursdays are a huge day for me because when I can I will hop on the free shopping bus and make it a couple of hours right out of my comfort zone in the mega supermarket and then treat myself to something very yummy in the cafe afterwards.

When ever I can I help out my Bootiful Cousin which is where I'm off too this evening ... not far away and in the dark for the most part so it makes life easier.

So please if you are reading this, agoraphobics are NOT lazy, they don't stay inside ALL the time, there are those that do in extreme cases but not permanently. and we are very constructive in our own way.

Don't judge what you know nothing about, and just because you can't see it from the outside doesn't mean someone isn't fighting a battle every moment of everyday.

Bloo on Green ~ Being Green isn't just about recycling

Hey Loverlies welcome to this episode of Bloo on Green.

I have to admit I really had to think about this one. I was going to make something but have put it aside for now as other things came to mind over the last 2 days that really made me realise that being Green isn't just about  recycling things to make other things, or rather upcycling as it is now poshly known as !!!!

There are many ways to recycle and make use of what you have about you or what others no longer have a need for. We think nothing of hand-me-down clothes for our kids, but for some reason many of these same parents turn thier noses up at going to the charity shop or second hand clothing store. Some of these shops are treasure troves of gorgeous fabrics and kids clothing and even grown up clothing at prices that we should NEVER go past!!! For example the Barnados shop in Plymouth near Sainsbury's ALL the clothing is 99p !!! 99p!!! you can't buy a cup of tea for that in most places now and I bought a brand new never been worn before pair of jeans from there !!!

Our local Brainwave charity shop is amazing!!! It's where I find most of my fabrics and bits for my kitchen and house in general. When it came to Yule we were able to obtain beautiful carved wooden trays and other bits and pieces for the kitchen for under £10 and it meant we were able to serve up everything for everyone and have spare serving platters etc. ooooo not to mention the beautiful glasses we got as well. £2 for 6 !!!

These are all items that normally would end up as landfill yet someone had the smart idea to set up these little charity shops and I tell you what I would much rather give my money to them than to sme massive corporate that is churning out too much stock and charging massive amounts for it!!!

The great thing I love about these shops is that all the items in there or many of them were once loved by others. Each and every item in there has a history and for the fraction of the cost of an antique shop we can decorate our home and get the essentials and sometimes fun things too ...

Vinyl records appear to be disappearing slowly and only known and loved by collectors. The second hand shops round here tend to flog a box of the for £10 .... a box being LOADS !!!! I love the thought of this, we can keep the ones that are worth keeping and turn the others into cyberpunk armour and other melted vinyl crafts!!!

The wonderful  little shops are like treasure caves and you never know from day to day what you will find. Today we were there and purchased a complete set of encyclopedias for £2 and 3 board games, a couple of other books and a matchstick blind, something I have been looking for for months that I could afford so we can make the felt for my partners grooms party for our Handfasting.

So there you go, recycling doesn't always have to be about the crafts we make or the things we do, it's about helping others as well. Which makes you feel pretty damn good about your choices when making purchases for your home or those in it.

Think twice before spending a massive amount on something brand new that just goes into the pocket of some corporate bell head !!! Look into your local second hand shop or charity shop. See what you can find and do some good at the same time.

Apologies ~ In which I get kidnapped by Himself

Hello me Loverlies and welcome to Thors Day

Normally here we would have Bloo on Green... however Himself (my loving and dutiful parnter whom I love and adore) saw fit to kidnap me this evening and force feed me awesome food and and beautiful wine and to be completely honest I'm not sure playing with sharp objects is a good idea at this point!!!

It was utterly wonderful though and as we celerate one of our numerous anniversaries, which in all honesty we haven't been able to do more than save the good ingredients and make a meal at home for the last year and a half. Not that I';m complaining because to be honest they have been some of the loverliest evenings I have ever experienced in my life!!! Tonight was made wonderfully special, as I sit here typing my apology to you for not getting Bloo on Green done this evening my belly is sighing with contentment and my head is swimming a little with utter bliss ... or was that the Rose ??? Either way tonight has been a most wonderful evening and to make sure we don't go to bed squiffy we are going to curl up and watch a movie.

This does mean however that tomorrow you will have 2 POSTS !!! as Himself and I have decided to do the normal Bloo on Green in the morning and the Ode to Friday in the evening.

I just hope you can all wait that long !!!

Love you all ... go spend some time with someone you love more than anything, even if you haven't told them yet.

Cookie's Corner ~ Here come the Fae !!!

Hey Loverlies!!! Welcome to Woden's Day

Well the Edge of the Moors Faery Festival is only a couple of months away and we have decided to do most of the concessions ourselves. One of the things we have found we need to make and need lots of are fairy cakes. In fact we are having to make 300 of them to make sure we have enough to go around. What we also have to think about is those who are wheat and dairy free, so this evening I have decided to pop up the recipe we are going to use for the wheat and dairy free version.

This is a recipe that has been tried and tested on kids. You know the type of kids that will moan the first time they see something not quite right. To be honest I made 2 dozen and they evaporated out of the tin!!! Quickly enough that we couldn't grab the camera in time to get a pic so I will add one in when I make some ont he weekend.  So kids love then and to be honest that is the best way to know that a recipe will work!!!

So here we go :~

Wheat and Dairy Free Fairy Cakes

250g Soy Spread
250g Caster Sugar
1 tspn Vanilla Extract
250g Spelt Flour
4 Tbspns Soy Milk
3 tspns Baking Powder

~ Cream the Soy Spread and Sugar together until light and fluffy, add the vanilla and mix in.
~ Mix in the Flour and Baking Powder and add as much Soy Milk as you need to make a medium batter.
~Divide the mix between 24 muffin tins.
 ~Bake at  200°C Electric oven, Electric fan oven 180°C, Gas Mark 6 for 10 - 20 minutes until cooked and golden on top.

Don't overcook the fairy cakes otherwise they will dry out.

Cool on a wire rack

Top them anyway you feel fit to do so. Frosting or glaze and loads of different glittery toppings. Have fun with them and get the kids to join it!!

~~~~~~
 So there you go a loverly healthy recipe for the nommies that we Fae all love !!!
If you want to know more about  the Edge of the Moors Faey Festival follow the link below to the website:~
Have a wonderful rest of your Wednesday
Stitch and Bitch ~ In Which I get offered an over 50 plan insurance and all of a sudden have the need to do granny crafts
Happy Tuesday Me Loverlies!!! A Blessed Beltaine to everyone in the North and Happy Samhain to those in the South!!!
Well today, I have to say it has been rather ummm all over the place. Nothing new there I have to admit lol!!! However Himself and I decided to go out and do something special for Beltaine so we went out for brekky. In doing so we ended up going somewhere we don't normally and being able to do something to help the person running the cafe who was in a complete state and needs help.
There is nothing better in a day than doing something good for someone in your community, especially when it means the community pulls together as it should. To be honest thisis the way it has ALWAYS been done, communities looking after their own. In my opinion it is about time our communities starting getting more involved with each other and pulling together and helping each other the way it should be, instead of hiding away behind closed doors and only coming out to take the kids to school and home again and occasionally popping out to the shop.
Anywhoo I had a letter today that kind of threw me a bit I have to say !!! It was from Sun Life Over 50 Plan .... O.o .... PARDON!!!!???!!!! Yeap that is what I said and in that tone, poor Himself looked like he was about to hide in the cupboard, cos this Pixie got a bit cross about it. To be fair I think I am entitled to get cross, first of all some nupmty randomly picked me at 38 to start canvassing for over 50 life insurance !!! Not only this but it wasn't some little leaflet it was a massive package of about 10  A4 sheets plus the envelop that took up more than our letter box !!! I'm sorry ... actually no I'm not for this little rant ... We are desperately trying to recycled everything so we don't need incinerators, and don't need to keep chopping down trees for pulp to make paper and some idiot decides not to check thier demographic of who they send things out to and waste a mass of paper sending out packages to people years before they are even possibly interested !!!! It's just RUDE!!! and wasteful!!! HUMPH!!!!
Himself has the pic on his phone but is out at the moment at a Buckfastleigh Forum meeting so they will be added later when I pin him down for 30 seconds put together hahaha ...
 Oh look there it is !!!!!
Anywhoo today I have been working very hard on making my own shoes. These aren't any ordinary shoes these are Oak Leaf Boots. They have taken me quite alot of work and I has been a work in progress for a couple of years now. More of a labour of love some would say. Either way they are quite special and a pattern I have been working on for quite some time. These boots will be quite special because once finished I will be able to wear them however I want. In other words I will be able to build my own boots. So instead of having 20 pairs for different occasions I can have this one pair and build them however I want to wear them.
As you can see the main boot is a slipper style design and the panels are oak leaves. Each Oak leaf when completed will have eyelets in them that will mean they can be attached to each other anyway I want them to be. They could be short or long or one of each. They could even be coiled up my leg like a vine. Being this style of design means that if I am at a festival I only need to bring this one pair of boots not 5 or 6 pairs for different occasions. I can build the boot to suit the outfit I am wearing. I could even bring different panels which I will be making later on in all sorts of leaf patterns and colours.
Although these can be made out of leather I have chosen here to go for a more natural cloth type boot both for comfort and for ease of packing. As these boots will literally be able to be rolled up on themselves.
These boots aren't at all hard to make in fact they are pretty simple. After drawing around your foot, you choose a leaf shape and use that throughout your boot design. Here I have used the one Oak leaf pattern and just resized it to make the boot itself and then resized it again to make the leg panels.
The bit that is taking time for me is the embroidery. These boots to me are very special and I want them to show that. each panel is individually being buttonhole stitched areound its entirety, this not only makes it look good and ads some extra colour to the panel but also finishes it off beautifully.
As you can see in the pic I have a few more to finish and the eyelets to put in yet and I will do a second blog on these once they are finished, and yes the one in the middle is the one I am working on at the moment. For me this is something I do in front of the tv watching a movie or whatever in the evening, or when I'm not so well I do it then as well, as at those points it is hard to use the sewing machine as I need the support on my back.
Of course I am happy to make simpler versions of these which I can put together very quickly and they will still be awesome. I can of course make a pair like mine but they will take longer and be lots of dosh. If of course you are interested. You can contact me via the website, which is still a work in progress so please bare with me.
Fallen Angel Studios
If not go for it and try it yourself it truly isn't hard at all.
Anywhoo have a great rest of your day ... in my case I'm off to bed !!!
Monday Catch Up ~ In Which I Get Righteously Angry and Find out One of My Friends is Teeny Tiny
Hippy Moon Day Loverlies!!!
This weekend has been quite a busy one here in Pixie Towers and to be honest I'm glad it's Monday again. I have been busy organising all sorts of things, from faery festivals to halloween parties, weddings dresses, bridesmaid dresses, Steampunk costumes and Bellydancer outfits. In between visits from the Faery Princesses and my Bootiful Cousin and her trixie pixies. I think I need another weekend to get over this one hahaha!!!
All is well though and after turning Pixie Towers on it's ear late last week we are now safely and comfortably ensconsed in our new room and the other one has been made beautiful and ready for any Princesses who are likely to turn up and stay at any time.
I have to admit though I have been in a bit of a angry pixie mode for the last couple of days. To me there is nothing worse you can do as a parent as to force your children to lie to cover up your deceptions and actions. It puts children in a terrible position and forces them to do something that they know is wrong and they know they shouldn't do. It also makes them terrified of consequences they may incur due to someone finding out they were lying or keeping information away from them, or the consquences of the parent who told them to keep the secret in the first place. Most frightening of all it can condition children into not saying something when they really need to, for example if something has happened that they NEED to share for thier own safety or if something has been done to them and they have been told "it's our little secret".
There is not alot that makes this pixie mad but grooming children is one of them, in fact ANYTHING that causes a child harm or hurt in anyway really does ruffle my feathers!!!
Well ok enough ranting now, I have had my say and that's that !!!
Onto more fun things, for the last few weeks I have been working on a very special order of bellydancing costumes, and I have to admit I have been a tad worried about messing them up. However today I made alot of headway. Although I did have somewhat of a surprise when I found out how teeny the lady in question was. I had made the patterns a few weeks ago but decided to remake and design 2 of the costumes and today I have been working very hard on them. Not being such a teeny person myself and having quite alot of extra "padding" I definately found myself resizing and relooking at the measurements again. I did do this several times I have to admit and even went so far as to take a peek at my friends pics to make sure that what I was looking at was correct.
It is funny how we see ourselves and others in the world and forget the very large differences between us. My friends waist is the size of one of my thighs and I have to admit I found myself wondering whether this worried because she is so teeny or because I am so padded. I have never really seen myself as an "obese" person, and to be honest I am quite comfortable in my skin. However this did make me wonder and I have to say there will probably be more on this sometime later on.
For now though I am going to sign off and get on the rest of my day, my Bootiful cousin has turned up with the trixie pixies to show off her wedding dress so I am about to be very busy.
Have a fantabulous rest of your day
